Semi-detached chateau

I’m sure you know what you want when you are looking for a house in France. Everyone seems to. While for some it’s indispensable to have a view, others won’t do without a swimming pool. For others still, being within walking distance of a local wine producer offering free tastings each weekend can be a non-negotiable requirement. ..... Every now and then my husband sings the praises of the anonymous German who lords over the semi-detached chateau. I secretly give thanks to him too, but there is no way I’m telling my husband.

The indispensable punch-bag

“You've ruined my life!” was my daughter Amy’s consistent mantra for the first six months of our life in France. She was ten years old when we moved and enjoyed repeating the accusation to me anytime I was in earshot. “You've ruined my life”! joined her daily gesture of throwing her school bag on the sofa when she came home from school.
